What is it, and how will the Center be a resource for developing secure data exchange for the Smart Grid.

How does IECRE 61724 align with the Center's objective to help develop a secure Smart Grid.

The bigger picture must be considered beyond just data interoperability for building the Smart Grid.  From the financial reporting in XBRL/FIBO, along with O&M systems in field that generate the IECRE 61724 Data Set for the financial markets to import for predictive analytics, we must also incorporate how that connectivity is a component of the larger issue of cybersecurity and the work currently being undertaken by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency with the Rapid Attack Detection, Isolation and Characterization Systems, where cyber risk to the Smart Grid is being reviewed.

As we promote the data interoperability as envisioned by IECRE 61724 and other data sets we must be aware of potential consequences, avoid “unintended consequences” and strategize for “intended consequences”, like contributing towards a widely adopted data interoperability protocol, a more secure and resilient Smart Grid, public agencies compliance with the DATA Act, and private sector compliance with the Basil 239.
